Protective style update - My favourite products!

Hey peeps,

So it's been a hot minute since I have updated you all on my protective style journey, so I thought I would share with you my journey in finding the perfect products for having my hair under wraps!

So when I have my curls on show, I love to use Shea Moisture products. They are thick and enriched with the nutrients my hair needs. My Favourite range has to be a toss up between the original Raw Shea Butter Products or the Jamaican Black Castor Oil range. The Raw selection is just moisture, moisture, moisture. My hair is in love with this. The deep conditioner is everything. The conditioner is a great co washer and leave conditioner.

I love the Jamaican Black Castor Oil range too. I think my favourite is the shampoo, as it clarifies and cleans my hair in one use. The leave in conditioner is light but moisturising.

The only issue with these products is that I found them too heavy for my hair, whilst in protective styling. The products would build up very quickly. Trust me it is no joke!

So I thought I would try out their 10 in 1 Superfruit Renewal System. The product's consistency is a lot thinner so I thought I would give it ago to see if that would help with build up. #

Being a superfruit complex, it has a very distinctive berry smell. Oh duh right. But it is absolutely amazing.

So I decided to buy the deep conditioner and an their standard conditioner, with view to use the deep conditioner when I clarify my hair and the standard conditioner as a co wash and leave in.

So let's get on with it and review shall we (or shall I say I)

Deep Conditioner:

I am pretty impressed with this. I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive about buying it after checking out a few YouTube videos. The reviews were pretty mixed. But I am a believer in trying things for myself.

My honest opinion is also kind of mixed but I actually like the product. I loved the way it leaves my hair feeling soft, but not too heavy. Again the smell is absolutely divine. The only real issue with this is that I needed to use A LOT of product for it to work. My hair is by  no means thick. It is very light and just grows long, rather than thick. It is by no means coarse. So to have to use 1/3 of the pot for one application is crazy. I hate to imagine how much someone with thick coarse hair had to use.
My personal opinion is that there is no point in having a product which is thinner if you have to use a ton of it to get results.

I also found that I needed to keep the product on my hair for far longer than recommended. The magic number for me was 2-3 hours. That is great when you are having a lazy day and can't be bothered to rinse, not so much if you are on any kind of schedule.

I found it worked best following a clarifying shampoo, rather than prior. If you hair is feeling stripped after clarifying, don't expect to get a huge moisture injection from it. I would say that this would work really well as I standard conditioner rather than a deep conditioner.

I know I was looking for something a little lighter, but this was not what I was looking for. It's such a shame as I actually love the smell and can not get enough.

10 in 1 Conditioner:

I am absolutely in love with this product. So much so, it's now my new go to co-wash and conditioner. It is so smooth and a lot thicker than most conditioners. I kept it on whilst in the shower for about 4ish minutes and the change was crazy. My hair felt so light but soft. My curls were bouncy too.

It seemed to work so well, I thought I would try it as a deep conditioner, considering the actual deep conditioner was such a meh. I used it after clarifying and left it on for an hour and found my hair felt amazing, even after feeling a bit striped post shampoo.

Shea Moisture, should have just stuck to this and not bother about the hair masque.

So to go a little further I thought I would also try it as a leave in conditioner, using a 20p size amount and distributed it on my hair. AMAZING. That is all!

I could not be any happier with this product. SO much so I have purchased it for a second time. I have to say that it lasts quite a while. This product go far.

I found my hair stronger and lighter, and yes there smell is just a berrilicious as the masque. You can smell berries all day if you use it as a leave in.

So I wold definitely recommend this product for anyone try. I can image it would work well on Keratin or perm treated hair as it is sulphate free and uses a lot of natural products.

If you would like to try these products, you can find them in any afro hair product stockist or you can by it on Amazon , direct from them, anyway you want really.

So let me know if you have ever tried this out and what you think of it. Just leave a comment!

Until next time x

Urban Decay Priming Spray: This is refreshing and hydrating. I highly recommend this is your skin is a little dry. I use this on the perimeter of my face to help add some glow. Any Urban Decay counter has this or if like me you are lazy, you guessed it, Amazon has it! URBAN DECAY B6 Vitamin…

Benefit Stay don't Stray Eye primer: I bought mine from the benefit counter, but you can get it online directly from benefit direct from benefit or again from Amazon  Benefit Cosmetics…

FACE:
La Girl Pro Conceal Concealers: from amazon. You can get every colour imaginable, including the colour correcting colours. My highlight Colour is Fawn and Contour Colour is Dark Cocoa LA Girl Cosmetics Pro…

Benefit Dr Feelgood: Benefit Dr. Feelgood (24g) you can buy it from Amazon, or buy this directly from benefit Dr Feelgood direct from Benefit.

Elf Tinted Moisturiser: I bought mine from amazon because there is nowhere near where I live which sells Elf products: e.l.f. Studio Tinted… just find your shade.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream: I love this combined with Elf. It gives a gorgeous dewy look. My shade is nowhere to be found so I have to buy online. You guessed again, I love me some Amazon! Maybelline New York Dream…

EYES:

Transition colour: Sorry guys, I found this one on Ebay a while back from a nameless brand. I have not been able to find any colour like it, but it make the perfect transition colour for me. I suggest you find the right transition colour for you. I like Laroc and Morphe palettes as they have a wide range of shades.

W7 In the Nude: I more affordable version of Urban Decay's Naked 3 Palette. I have to admit the Naked 3 Palette is a lot easier to work with as it is far more pigmented, but W7 is pretty good for it's price. I just find you need to build the colour on your lids. The fall out is no joke either.W7 - 'IN THE NUDE' EYE…

Kohl Pencil: This is from Collection. again you can get it in supermarkets etc but also again on Amazon Collection Intense Colour…

Maybelline Falsies Mascara: I love this Mascara nearly as much as my Givenchy. Maybelline The Falsies Volum'…

Lashes: I am not are where they came from but I got them in a goody bag, when I went to Dubai Fashion week. I thought I would try them for this video.

LIPS:

I used 2 lip liners one of which was Rimmel Exaggerate… and the other was a random one I found on Ebay. I can't even see the name. I love using liners to create customer colours combined with lipsticks. I find with my large lips and dark skin, it gives me the freedom of wearing bold colours, without looking like a walking pair of lips.

Teeez Oasis Lipstick Killing me Softly: I got this from my February Glossybox but have also found several colours on Amazon. It is really smooth and hydrating. The colour is bold and it is highly pigmented.Teeez Read My Lips Lipstick -…

SET THE MUG:

My go to setting spray is Urban Decay All Nighter. Your make up will never move. I have not found a cheaper version that works even a fraction like this. All nighter long-lasting…

So that is it. The long list of products I used for this make up look. Again this is a pageant make up look , so I had to go a little crazy and make sure I applied plenty of product.

This is my affordable (mostly) range, to show you that you can achieve the same flawless look without having to take out a mortgage.
